Concluding Information for Charlwood, Surrey

Charlwood, Surrey has many climate control factors which makes this location interesting to study when it comes to the weather and climate of this location. Charlwood is as stated in previous posts located in England which of course is a large island surrounded by water on all sides. Charlwood is located near the southern edge of England, Charlwood is inland but only about an hour or two away from the ocean. On a Meso (Regional) scale level Charlwood is mainly effected by the large body of water that surrounds England which effects the water tremendously. The image below shows England and the large body of water surrounding the island.

The image above also shows that Charlwood does not have any mountain ranges extremely close but Charlwood does have a very hilly terrain which can effect the weather somewhat. As stated in the first blog post Charlwood is effected by five different frontal systems some of which bring cold front off of the mountains in the east and others which bring hurricane type fronts from the south west. During the winter season Charlwood experiences colder weather from Arctic and polar fronts blowing in from the North. And during the summer seasons Charlwood experiences warmer weather from tropical fronts blowing in from the south (See image on first blog for specific fronts). Charlwood experiences a lot of precipitation all year round due to its geographic location and due to the fronts that effect it.

I do not know too much about the micro scale level of Charlwood except that most of the area is farm land or suburban and it is located fairly close to London which is a much larger city in England. These three things can effect the micro scale level but it is nothing too significant. The image below just shows the typical landscape of Charlwood Surrey and the hilly terrain that surrounds this small town.

Charlwood like most cities around the world experiences changes. As populations grow environments change and along with these changes come climactic changes. However slightly they might be Charlwood has experienced a few changes over the past sixty years that can be shown through the average temperature over these years. Below are a few graphs showing the average high and low temperatures during the months of January and July for Charlwood, Surrey.

As you can see in these graphs there are a few changes that are fairly significant. In the month of January Charlwood experienced some changes showing that the climate was warming up during 1990 but then the environment corrected itself and cooled down again by 2010. Based on this chart one could determine that Charlwood will most likely warm up again by 2020 and then will most likely work its way back down again. In the month of July the temperature stays relatively the same but increases slightly every year without correcting itself and cooling down again. So one could determine that Charlwood is going to continue to increase gradually over the next ten years cooling only slightly.

Charlwood, Surrey Compared to Seattle, Washington

I chose to compare my site to one of my fellow classmates which was Seattle, Washington. These two sites compare rather nicely with very few differences. Seattle is surrounded by large bodies of water almost similar to Charlwood except that Charlwood is an island surrounded by the ocean. But both of these locations weather patterns are effected by these bodies of water. Both of these locations receive much rain fall and are typically cloud covered. These two locations sit at about the same latitude with Charlwood at 51.1566 deg. North and Seattle at 47.6097 deg. North. The differences between these two locations would be that Seattle is a much larger city by itself which means that it is effected more on a micro scale level than surrey is. Also Seattle has a large Mountain chain that effects it where Charlwood does not.

More weather info on Charlwood (Surrey) England

Charlwood (Surrey) is a beautiful city in Surrey England. Charlwood rests about an hour or two away from the ocean on the eastern coast of England. As shown in the picture below England is affected by five different air masses. Arctic, Polar Maritime, Tropical Maritime, Tropical Continental and Polar Continental. This abundance of air masses is why Charlwood remains a cool and wet climate year round hardly ever reaching any extreme high temperatures during the spring and summer. Charlwood also experiences a lot of snow and very low temperatures during the winter seasons.

Charlwood (Surrey) experiences an occluded frontal system which allows this area to experience mid-latitude cyclones. This is due to the abundance of air masses that affect Charlwood as noted earlier.

For a small animation of the above image please visit the posted URL under the image. This image is showing the current temperatures of Charlwood (Surrey) which are fairly cold and are predicted to stay that way for most of the winter. Charlwood is most likely experiencing a cold front from the north which has not collided with a warm front at the moment which is why there is a slight lack of rainfall currently. In the coming days I'm sure that Charlwood can look forward to a warm front moving in resulting in some rainfall as the cool air already over England forces this warm air up into the atmosphere.

Charlwood is located in England which is a large Island surrounded by water. This in itself is a key factor that creates localized weather effects for Charlwood (Surrey), England.

Surrey, England is a home county in the South East of England. There are many cities, towns and villages that reside within Surrey. Most of these cities and towns are larger and resemble the kind of living styles you would see in London. Some are smaller scaled and resemble the small suburbs like Littleton, Colorado. This blog is about the differences in weather conditions that a small village in Surrey, England such as Charlwood would have compared to a suburban area such as Littleton, Colorado.  I would one day love to move to England with my wife and live in an area much like Littleton. I want the landscape to be beautiful like it is in Littleton as well as colder weather conditions like we see in Colorado.
Charlwood, Surrey is not bordered by a large mountain range like Littleton, Colorado is. Charlwood has more farm land and hills rather then mountains. Charlwood is also located closer to the coast than Littleton is which means they will have somewhat different weather conditions in the long run.

Now Charlwood has fairly cold weather year round. Even in Littleton Colorado the temperatures tend to get a little high during the summer months which I could do without. The graph below shows the average temperatures for each month in Charlwood, Surrey.

Littleton might have a few months of warmer weather than I like but the nice cold winter months make up for that. Littleton receives a fair share of snow fall every winter which is my favorite part and something that Charlwood will not have as much of. The graph below shows the average temperatures for each month in Littleton, Colorado.

Charlwood also sees a substantial amount of rainfall days compared to Littleton Colorado. Which means that by moving to Charlwood one would be losing the 300 days of blue skies and gaining more gloomy overcast days. below is a graph representing the amount of precipitation gained on average each month for Charlwood as well as the average rainfall days.

Littleton has slightly less rainfall days and less overall precipitation then Charlwood which does allow mostly clear blue skies year round. But with less overall precipitation Littleton has to deal with severe droughts for many months that Charlwood does not have to deal with. The graph below shows the amount of precipitation gained on average for Littleton as well as the average rainfall days.

Charlwood would most likely have a low Bowen Ratio around 0.60 because of the increase in precipitation for its region. I believe that Charlwood would be somewhere between Maritime and Continental.
